As cat lovers and experienced cat owners ourselves, we know that the condition of a cat’s skin and fur is frequently a reflection of overall health. Poor skin health can sometimes be traced to dietary insufficiencies or imbalances. Problems with the skin and fur are never just cosmetic. Symptoms such as hair loss, thinning fur, dullness, dry flaky skin, excessive scratching, thickened skin, infections, and odors can often be traced back to either a shortage or an excess of a specific nutrient. In fact, there is no more visible indicator of problems with your cat’s overall health than problems with the skin and fur. The right nutrients in the right proportions are indispensable to keeping your cat healthy.

Why Avocados?
With one of the fiber sources is avocado, many will wonder is avocados safe for cats?
Many of the nutrients your cat needs for a healthy skin and fur can be found in the remarkable fruit known as the avocado. Nutrient rich avocados contain vitamins A, E and C in abundance. They’re also an excellent source of balanced nutritional essentials for your cat’s skin and fur health—and good health in general. Avocados are high in folate, potassium, niacin, essential fatty acids, and many other nutrients. They have no cholesterol, very little sodium, and are high in monounsaturated fats. Ounce for ounce, the avocado is simply one of the most nutritious fruits there is.

ADULT FEEDING CHART

3-5 lbs: 1/4 to 1/2 cup

5-10 lbs: 1/2 to 1 cup

10-15 lbs: 1 to 1 1/3 cups

KITTENS

Start allowing kittens access to AvoDerm® Chicken & Herring Meal Formula cat food about 3 weeks before weaning. The food can be moistened to help consumption. After weaning feed the kitten 3 to 4 times per day for the first 2 months, and then from 2 to 3 times per day until reaching adult size, and then 1 to 2 times per day. Expect to feed 1 1/2 to 2 times the adult feeding recommendation during the kitten's growing phase. Adjust the daily amount fed so the kitten maintains a good body condition.

PREGNANT FEMALES

During pregnancy increase the feeding amount during the last 1/3 of pregnancy to 1 1/2 times the amount recommended as shown for the adult. Avoid excessive overfeeding, maintaining a good body condition, while preparing for whelp and nursing.

LACTATING FEMALES

A nursing female can expect to need 2 to 3 times as much food as recommended in the adult feeding guideline. Adjust the extra food given by the number of kittens and length of nursing. Try to maintain a good body condition. However, with large numbers of kittens, expect to have some loss in body fat for milk production.
